Saints Cyril and Methodius Pastoral Council
Minutes of February 11, 2009 meeting
Rectory, 303 Keller Avenue, N. Judson
Father Terry opened the meeting with prayer. Minutes of the January 28, 2009 meeting were read and approved (Chaffins/Razus).
Members in attendance: Larry Zembala, Rachel Back, Barbara Patterson, Joe Smolek, Margaret Razus, Roger Chaffins, Father Terry Bennis, and Joan Haugh.
Minutes – The minutes will be emailed to the Market and to the parish office after approval by the Parish Council. Copies will then be available to the parish at large.
Diocesan Affairs – An endowment fund will be established for the Diocese. Four priests will be retiring.
Memorial Donations – Envelopes will be printed with memorial donation information on the front and placed in local funeral homes. Kay Reimbold offered to print the envelopes. Larry will meet with Father Terry to decide on appropriate wording.
Parish Life – Plans are underway for the February 15th celebration. The Funeral Committee needs additional members to help bake and serve for the dinners. The grief ministry request for volunteers resulted in one volunteer and another name suggested. The senior citizens will be offered an outing for the spring. Several ideas were shared.
Liturgy Worship – No report.
Stewardship – They met last week and discussed ways to raise funds for the parish: K/C bingo, rummage sale, and pancake breakfasts. The Knights will hold a pancake breakfast in March with the profit designated to the “Source and Summit” conference for the Confirmation students attending. The boiler is still in the process of being repaired. After much discussion, it was felt that a profit and loss statement for each month would be helpful so that parishioners had a better ideas of funds received and funds disbursed.
Father Terry said the Finance Council has been discussing similar issues.
Education/Formation – They met Monday and are planning on an abstinence program for students and parents. The committee met with Frank Zolvinski and Linda Kelly to obtain assistance on programming. The tuition for next year for religious education students will be re-evaluated; the cost of books is increasing as are other costs for supplies. Council members suggested publishing a list of needed items in the bulletin, and perhaps parishioners would be able to donate paper, pens, markers, etc. for the religious ed program. The Confirmation class will be collecting used ink jet cartridges and selling Home Interior Candles to help raise funds the conference in April. It is estimated that it will cost about $120-$150 for each student attending.
Social Justice/Peace – Nothing new at this time.
Next meeting will be March 11, 2009, 6:30 p.m. Meeting closed with prayer.
