Saints Cyril and Methodius Pastoral Council
Minutes of April 8, 2009 Meeting
Present: Father Terry Bennis, Rachel Back, Laura Sharkozy, Bob Alva, Carmen Haller, Margaret Razus, Candice Vanwaardenburg, Larry Zembala and Joan Haugh.
Minutes of the March 11, 2009 meeting were approved (Razus/Sharkozy).
Diocesan Affairs – Persons wishing to attend the Commission Night on May 4th at Our Lady of Consolation Parish must register by April 27th. The “Ministry Showcase” will allow commissions and council members to share ideas on programs and ministries.
Parish Life – Margaret Razus reported:
• Mother’s Day treat will be a breakfast by the Knights of Columbus, and a plant marker and seeds to all mothers. Father’s Day ideas are not finalized.
• Senior citizen activities will begin after Easter with a trip to the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum; reservations must be in by May 2nd.
• Grief support and visiting the sick ministry will have a meeting on April 29th at 6:30 p.m. Joan Lauder of Winamac has agreed to be the counselor.
Liturgy/Worship – Easter activities have been planned. Help is always needed to clean the church. The Lenten soup and bread events after the 6 p.m. Mass on Wednesdays were deemed a major success. We need to begin arranging for speakers for next year.
Education/Formation – There are ten students and four chaperones who will be attending the “Source and Summit” at the end of April. After discussion on the costs and funds raised, it was decided that any excess of revenue over expense, that the balance be placed in the account which has been established for the youth club, and be used for next year’s group attending the summit. It was suggested Rachel contact Bonita Godsey about the account.
Stewardship – Rummage sale plans are underway. Any support would be welcome.
NEW BUSINESS
Father Terry would like to start a SSC&M film festival (movies) but he needs helpers. The Knights have agreed to cover the cost of popcorn and drinks, but workers would be needed to help serve. Also, a session for the little ones, ages 5-8, would be nice for a Sunday afternoon or Saturday morning.
Next meeting will be May 13, 2009, 6:30 p.m.
